Athletics: PerformanceRunner.com Launches Providing a New Way for Top Runners to Locate Races

Following almost two years of data gathering and construction, PerformanceRunner.com is now available to the public. The web site provides a listing of cross country and road races around the US which offer prize money to the top finishers. PerformanceRunner.com is the only site which provides this information to the public free of charge, and is the only online race calendar focusing solely on prize money races. Prize money, which can help to fund important training needs, is vital to the development of a competitive distance runner.

Before PerformanceRunner.com, a runner would have to scour various online race calendars to find races offering prize money. The athlete would then have to search again to find past results to determine the level of competition at the race. PerformanceRunner.com eliminates these unnecessary steps by providing prize money information, direct links to previous results, and direct links to the official race website in one centralized location.

“I wanted runners to have more opportunity to win prize money,” said Matt Enders, owner and founder of PerformanceRunner.com. “It is important for athletes to be supported in their running, and I saw that this information wasn’t available for free anywhere else.”

PerformanceRunner.com was established to accomplish two goals in the running community:

First, to help runners earn additional income which can help pay for training needs and other expenses. A competitive distance runner with aspirations of national and international success is often forced to make substantial sacrifices, sometimes including a successful career, in order to train and compete. The immediate post-collegiate years are often the most difficult since the majority of talented runners are not yet professionals. Winning prize money is a key factor in the competitive survival of an athlete.

Second, to increase the level of competition at road races. Prize money often equates to faster times. By making this race information readily available to top runners, it increases the likelihood of better competition at these races. With better competition will come better individual performances and, eventually, more successful US distance running as a whole.

While other online race calendars exist, none are attentive to the often forgotten post-collegiate runners. The largest collection of talent and potential exists in this group. Too many dedicated runners are forced to reduce their training or leave competitive running behind completely when faced with societal pressures. PerformanceRunner.com provides new opportunity for runners to continue pursuing their goals.
