Athletics: Newport 10,000 Raises Prize Money

Race director Mark Zenobia of On Your Mark Productions announced today that the total prize money purse for the Newport 10,000, a 10 km road race in Jersey City, N.J. scheduled for Saturday, May 13, has been doubled to $20,000. The increase will help commemorate the 20th anniversary of Newport, a 600 acre waterfront community directly across the Hudson River from Manhattan.

Prize money will be offered as follows for the top-5 male and female athletes:

 1st, $2500
 2nd, $1500
 3rd, $1000
 4th, $750
 5th, $500

In addition, there will be a separate purse for U.S. citizens, who are also eligible to win prize money from the open purse:

 1st, $1000
 2nd, $500
 3rd, $250

There is also additional prize money ($4000 total) for USATF-NJ members, masters athletes, and a Run for Your High School Division.
