Athletics: Harlan named USATF Athlete of the Week

INDIANAPOLIS - Ryan Harlan has been named USA Track & Field's Athlete of the Week after winning the men's heptathlon Sunday at the 2006 USA Indoor Combined Events Championships in Chapel Hill, N.C.

The reigning champion in the men's heptathlon, Harlan won his second consecutive title with 5,949 points. Harlan's success culminated with marks of 7.07 in the 60m (858 points), 6.93m/22-9 in the long jump (797 points), 16.36m/53-8.25 in the shot put (873 points), 2.08m/6-9.75 in the high jump (878 points), 7.96 in the 60m hurdles (992 points), 4.72m/15-5.75 in the pole vault (825 points) and 2:53.86 in the 1,000m (726 points).

Now in its sixth year, USATF's Athlete of the Week program is designed to recognize outstanding performers at all levels of the sport. USATF names a new honoree each week and features the athlete on the USATF website. Selections are based on top performances and results from the previous week.
