Posted: March 8, 2006 Triathlon: Philadelphia Triathlon In Fairmount Park Adds Sprint Distance Triathlon Registration Opens March 8 (PHILADELPHIA, PA) The Philadelphia Triathlon in Fairmount Park race organizers announced today an additional race to accompany the Philadelphia Triathlon in Fairmount Park’s Olympic-distance event, now in its second year, making a true weekend festival out of the event. Accommodations for the new race were made possible as recently as March 3, 2006 by the Fairmount Park Commission. Registration opens at www.phillytri.com for the race on March 8, 2006. The Olympic-distance event sold out 2,100 slots in 14 days. The new sprint race will be held on June 24, 2006, one day prior to the Olympic-distance triathlon, and will utilize a similar course within the historic Fairmount Park neighborhood. The .9K Schuylkill River swim will be a single loop from the transition area; the bike portion will consist of 24K worth of riding on West River Drive with views of the Philadelphia Art Museum and one challenging hill; and the 5K run will take competitors on an out-and-back flat course along the river, finishing near the transition area. “It’s exciting to be able to provide another great race to the people of Philadelphia,” said Race Director Lars Beck. “We have a great city behind the event which allows us to bring more people into the sport and raise more money for our local charities. I suspect the sprint will sell out as fast—or faster—than Sunday’s race.” The Philadelphia Triathlon in Fairmount Park donates a portion of the proceeds to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia’s Oncology Department and the Police Athletic League of Philadelphia. Athletes can register for the sprint race starting March 8, 2006 at 9 a.m. Eastern Standard Time by visiting www.PhillyTri.com. Sponsors committed to date include Cadence Performance Cycling Center, Endless Pools, Sorbothane, Penguin Brands, Nathan Sports, Philadelphia Inquirer, Philadelphia Insurance Companies and Gatorade. Other sponsorship and expo opportunities are available for the weekend expo held on premises. More information about the Philadelphia Triathlon in Fairmount Park can be found at www.PhillyTri.com or by contacting PR@phillytri.com. |
