Triathlon: Six U.S. Ford Ironman qualifiers open up limited spots for North American Ironman New Zealand competitors

BOULDER, Colo.-Six North American Ironman qualifiers will open up a limited number of spots for North American athletes who competed in Bonita Ironman New Zealand this past weekend.

Twenty-five general entry spots for Ford Ironman Arizona, Ford Ironman Coeur d’Alene, Ford Ironman USA Lake Placid, Ford Ironman Wisconsin and Ford Ironman Florida will be made available to those athletes from the United States who competed this past weekend in Ironman New Zealand. Ten spots for Subaru Ironman Canada will be made available for Canadian athletes only. These spots will be limited to athletes who are not already registered for an Ironman North America event in 2006. Athletes who received qualifying spots for the 2006 Ford Ironman World Championship are not eligible. The goal is to help athletes who do not have the opportunity to race an Ironman in 2006.

Spots will be offered free of charge to those athletes on a first-come, first-served basis. These slots are non-transferable and are good for the 2006 race only. No exceptions.

“We understand the training and commitment that athletes make when preparing for an Ironman,” said Ironman North America President Graham Fraser. “We would like to help the athletes in North America who weren’t able to complete their event in New Zealand. We also want to support Ironman New Zealand as we ourselves have been in the same situation.”

Athletes must have officially started the New Zealand event and must provide proof of registration (a race number) for the event. Only athletes NOT registered in another Ironman North America full-distance event for 2006 are eligible.

Athletes can get registration instructions e-mailing Ironman North America Administrator Melody Givens at melody@ironmanusa.com.
