Posted: March 13, 2006 Athletics: News & Notes, Volume 7, Number 17 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championship Recaps Arkansas and Texas run away with DI titles Arkansas won its 42nd national title in track and field/cross country Saturday night, outlasting LSU in the men's team competition at the NCAA Division I Indoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by the Razorbacks at the Randal Tyson Track Center. The Razorbacks have 19 indoor titles. The LSU Tigers finished second overall with 45 points, eight behind Arkansas. Florida State was third with 41. Xavier Carter of LSU won the 400 in 45.28, the fastest time in the world this year. Carter, who played receiver for LSU's football team, was second in the 200 Friday and led his team to a win in the 4x400m relay. Texas won its sixth women's team championship and first since 1999. The Longhorns now have won back-to-back NCAA track championships after claiming the 2005 NCAA outdoor title last June in Sacramento, Calif. The Texas women finished with 51 points. Stanford was second with 36, and Arizona State was third with 30. St. Augustine's and Lincoln claim DII crowns St. Augustine's claimed its ninth overall NCAA Division II men's title, while Lincoln (Mo.) picked up its second national crown in three years in winning team titles at the 2006 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by Stonehill College at the Reggie Lewis Track & Athletic Center in Boston. St. Augustine's won the men's crown for the first time since 2001, posting a team score of 66.5 points to end runner-up Abilene Christian's run of four straight titles. Adams State and Lincoln placed third and fourth, respectively, in the men's competition. There was an exciting an exciting duel in the high jump between Minnesota State-Mankato's Jim Dilling and Morehouse's Keith Moffat, who both set championship marks by clearing 2.29m/7-6. But it was Dilling who won the title, due to fewer misses. Lincoln's women posted a team score of 87 points to outdistance runner-up Abilene Christian's score of 50.33 points, as St. Augustine's and Adams State finished third and fourth, respectively, in the women's competition. UW-La Crosse and UW-Oshkosh repeat in DIII The UW-La Crosse men's team and the UW-Oshkosh women repeated as team champions at the 2006 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by the St. Olaf's Tostrud Center in Northfield, Minn. The LaCrosse men's team set NCAA records with 78 points and a margin of victory of 47 points while their sixth team title in a row. The Eagles won five events, including the pole vault, where they finished first, second, third and seventh. The 26 points they gained in the vault alone exceeded every other team's score except second place Lincoln University, third place UW-Oshkosh and fourth place Nebraska Wesleyan. The UW-Oshkosh women's team edged out Williams College for their third consecutive team title. UW-Oshkosh's 44 points beat Williams 38 and College City of New Jersey's 27. UW-Oshkosh was led by Robyn Jarocki's two individual titles in the weight throw and shot put.
