Athletics: Sprinter Trell Kimmons signs with GA&M, adidas

BOSTON, Mass. (March 14, 2006) – Trell Kimmons, who earlier this month won the sprint double at the National Junior College Athletic Association’s indoor national championships, has turned professional and signed a multi-year contract with adidas, according to manager Mark Wetmore, president of Boston-based Global Athletics & Marketing, Inc.

Kimmons, a native of Coldwater, Miss., and sophomore at Hinds Community College in Raymond, Miss., defended his 60-meter national title in 6.55 seconds, after running 6.53 in his heat, which broke his own NJCAA national record. The time of 6.53 equals the fastest time run by any college athlete in the country this season and the third-fastest time run anywhere in the world this year. Shortly after his victory in the 60 at the national meet, held at Kansas State University, Kimmons went on to win the 200-meter title in 20.89.

In 2004, Kimmons ran the first leg of the 4x100-meter USA relay squad that set a World Junior Record of 38.66 in the World Junior Championships. His personal-best outdoor times are 10.22 (100m) and 20.46 (200m), both set in 2005. Kimmons will continue to be coached by Reggie Dillon, the track coach at Hinds Community College.
