Athletics: Lynn Jennings, America's Most Decorated Female Distance Runner, to Make Rare Appearance at 2006 More Marathon

NEW YORK - (March 16, 2006) - Making her first public appearance in nearly seven years, the legendary Lynn Jennings will be a special guest at this year's More Marathon on Sunday, March 26, 2006, it was announced by New York Road Runners officials.

The third annual More Marathon, hosted by New York Road Runners and More magazine, is the world's first marathon for women 40 and over. More is the only magazine that celebrates women in their 40s and 50s.

Jennings, who is 45 and lives in Portland, Ore., retired in 1999 after enjoying one of the most decorated running careers in U.S. history. Her accomplishments include three World Cross Country Championships titles, an Olympic bronze medal at 10,000 meters in Barcelona 1992, two World Indoor Championships medals, seven national 10,000 meter championships titles, nine victories at the USA Cross Country Championships and an astounding 39 national titles overall, the most ever in the sport.

Jennings has maintained a demanding fitness regimen in her retirement, running 65 miles per week. Supporting women who, like herself, are over 40 and use running to keep fit and healthy is Jennings's inspiration for traveling to New York this year to cheer on the More Marathon's 3,500-plus participants.

Jennings will also participate in a panel discussion on women's running at the More Marathon expo on Saturday, March 25. For more information on the race, expo and the recent Jennings' interview, visit: www.nyrr.org.
