Posted: March 29, 2006 Athletics: Country Music Marathon & ˝ Marathon Recruiting High School Cheer Teams for Race Day Spirit on the Course Champion Will Receive $1,000 Prize NASHVILLE, Tenn., (March 29, 2006) - Once again, the popular Spirit on the Course competition returns to the seventh annual Country Music Marathon & ˝ Marathon. Local high school cheer teams can participate in one of Music City's top community programs on Saturday, April 29, 2006 as they cheer, chant and perform along the 26.2-mile and 13.1-mile courses. The cheerleaders will be judged on enthusiasm, spirit, creativity and the ability to incorporate running and musical themes into the race. The 25 cheer squads are positioned along the racecourse that begins at Centennial Park, taking marathoners on a scenic tour of Nashville, and finishing at The Coliseum. In addition, more than 50 bands will be located each mile creating a diverse array of entertainment for a projected 23,000 runners. The squads are vying for more than $2,000 in prize money. First place prize is $1,000, second takes home $750, while third place receives $500. Each of the top three schools will also receive commemorative guitar plaques recognizing their participation in the event. Every cheer squad participating in the Spirit on the Course competition will receive $175.
