Athletics: 100 Additional Spots For The Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon To Be Offered As Fundraiser For The Young Athletes Foundation

Duluth, Minn.: Grandma's Marathon is offering a special opportunity for 100 additional individuals to gain entrance into the 2006 Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon for an entry fee of $75.00. The opportunity is being held as a fundraiser for the Young Athletes Foundation, a Grandma's Marathon program that assists with the promotion, development and growth of youth athletics in the Northland. Twenty-five dollars ($25) of each entry fee will go directly to youth athletic programs and is tax deductible.

Beginning at 8:00 a.m. on Monday, April 3, a special entry form will be available to download from the Grandma's Marathon web site (www.grandmasmarathon.com). Those interested will need to complete the entry form and mail it in with the $75.00 entry fee. The first 100 applicants will be accepted. Payment will be returned on entries received after the limit is met. Entries are accepted by mail only. No walk-in, emailed or faxed entries will be taken.

The 30th anniversary Grandma's Marathon weekend celebration begins on Thursday, June 15 with the SMDC Health and Fitness Expo and continues on Friday, June 16 with the Michelina's All-You-Can-Eat Spaghetti Dinner, Whipper Snapper Races for Kids, guest speaking presentations, live musical entertainment and the William A. Irvin 5K (6:00 p.m.).

The Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon and Grandma's Marathon are on Saturday, June 17, 2006 beginning at 6:30 a.m. and 7:30 a.m., respectively. In all, over 16,000 runners and 50,000 race fans from across the globe are expected to participate in Grandma's Marathon Weekend.
