Athletics: Cambridge Classic Mile Features Nate Brannen

CAMBRIDGE, ONTARIO - Organizers of the Cambridge Classic Mile announced today the third annual edition of this unique event will be held Saturday June 10th, 2006 at Galt Collegiate Institute Cambridge native and recent Commonwealth games silver medallist, Nate Brannen is scheduled to race at the 2006 Classic Mile in June.

The clay track at Ontario's oldest high school was the scene of a spectacular day of competition a year ago as hundreds of athletes between the ages of 6 and 74 celebrated the magic of the four minute mile.

The Cambridge Classic Mile was founded to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Sir Roger Bannister's first sub 4:00 mile on a similar track at Oxford University.

Spectators were treated to the incredible performance of Kenya's world class miler, Laban Rotich, who won the invitational elite men's mile in a time of 3:58.9. Rotich was handed the keys to a brand new car as his prize for achieving what many thought was impossible on GCI's unforgiving track.

Race Director, John Carson is pleased to announce the title sponsors for this year's event are Manulife Financial and Brooks Shoe of Canada.

Media partners for the 3rd annual Cambridge Classic Mile include the Globe and Mail and the Record newspapers.

As the event grows, Carson has added a corporate 4x400 relay. The corporate relay will be the final event before the elite runners take to the track. Funds raised through the corporate relay will support this unique event and grass roots running initiatives.
