Posted: March 30, 2006 Athletics: Inaugural Carpe Diem® Santa Monica Classic to Celebrate Earth Month April 30 Event to Benefit Heal the Bay LOS ANGELES - (March 29, 2006) - On Sunday, April 30, in celebration of Earth Month, the inaugural Carpe Diem® Santa Monica Classic will feature a spectacular run on new 10K and 5K courses plus the opportunity to help keep coastal waters safe and clean. The races will begin at 8:00am at Ocean Park/Barnard Way and take participants from the world famous Santa Monica Beach, up Main Street and through the winding streets of San Vicente Blvd. Participants will cross the finish line atop the picturesque Santa Monica Pier and all proceeds from the event will benefit Heal the Bay. Heal the Bay is a non-profit environmental organization dedicated to making Santa Monica Bay and Southern California coastal waters safe and healthy for people and marine life. The Carpe Diem® Santa Monica Classic will include an environmentally themed expo, high-quality technical running shirt, tours of the Santa Monica Bay Aquarium, kids play area, Carpe Diem recovery lounge, concierges in the event parking lots, free pre-race coffee service from Peet's Coffee and an interactive website featuring streaming video, podcasts and blogs. The inaugural run is sponsored by Carpe Diem, and produced by Peter Abraham and Pacific Sports. Pacific Sports is dedicated to the management of top-notch sports events all around the world; including triathlons, marathons and other running events. Pacific Sports has produced over 100 triathlons in the United States including the Los Angeles Triathlon as well as the Catalina Marathon.
