Posted: April 8, 2006 Athletics: Tulu Out Of Boston Marathon From David Monti © 2006 Race Results Weekly, all rights reserved RaceResultsWeekly.com Derartu Tulu, the double Olympic gold medalist at 10,000m from Ethiopia, has been forced to withdraw from the BAA Boston Marathon with a stomach virus. The annoncement was made today by John Hancock Financial Services, the insurance and finance company which funds the race's elite field. Tulu, 34, has really just come into her own in the marathon. She set a personal best at the IAAF World Championships in Helsinki last summer, finishing fourth in 2:23:30. She came back some three months later to place third at the ING New York City Marathon in 2:25:21. Both of those times were achieved in all-women's races. In addition to her Olympic titles, Tulu was the 2001 World 10,000m champion. The BAA Boston Marathon, the first stop of the two-year World Marathon Majors series, will be held on Monday, April 17. |
