Triathlon: IRONMAN France - Nice Triathlon 2006, a happy 25th of June

This year again the race course circuits chosen by the organisers will assure to the athletes to have greats sportive emotions. Tremendous landscapes and a modified bike race circuit for a minor level of difficulty will allow every single athlete to perform perfectly.

Only 3 months to go until the IRONMAN France will be entirely dedicated to the comfort of the athletes, including a bike race circuit with a level of difficulty easily comparable to other races in Europe and including breathtaking beauty that already made many athletes say they spend a magic moment during this race. The swim in the deep blue of the Mediterranean and the 4-loops marathon on the Promenade des Anglais through alleys of applauding spectators will fill the athlete’s hearts with splendid feelings.

More than thousand athletes are already registered to compete in the French leg of the IRONMAN circuit. The proportion of participants remains unchanged since opening registration: 30% of French and 70% of international athletes, mostly Europeans.

Now then, why are all the 5 continents represented in this king size triathlon? On the French side, the city of Nice has been linked with triathlon history for more than 25 years, and beyond that, Nice hosts the unique IRONMAN of the country. On the international side, the beauty of the race circuit and the fame of the French Riviera make it the chosen destination for the athletes.

Nevertheless, the world of sport is not a long and quiet river; triathlon is no exception to this truism. Since autumn last year, the disagreements between the ITU (International Triathlon Union) and the WTC (World Triathlon Corporation), with insisting rumours saying the IRONMAN Nice would not take place, have troubled some French athletes. Today, dialogue takes place -as for an example, the USAT (American federation member of the ITU) has found an agreement with the WTC. And TRIANGLE France has an amicable relationship with the FFTri.

The second edition of the IRONMAN France - Nice Triathlon will take place for sure. The organisers, supported by the City of Nice, are concentrating on the details in order to welcome the athletes in a perfect setting. The race week from 22nd to 26th of June, rich of parties and animations, particularly inside the Herbalife Expo Village, is open to everyone.

This year again, the volunteers will be the key for the success of the event. There are between 600 and 800 volunteers getting involved in various areas, as close as one can be to the athletes, the public and the organisation. Those having been there in 2005 show by their presence in 2006, that they are involved, pleased, and that they are proud of being a part of it!
