Posted: April 14, 2006 Athletics: Cheboiywo & Rotich To Run Cambridge Mile From David Monti © 2006 Race Results Weekly, all rights reserved RaceResultsWeekly.com Defending champion, Laban Rotich of Kenya, will have some stiff competition from compatriot Boaz Cheboiywo at the Cambridge Classic Mile scheduled for June 10 in Ontario. The event will be held on the crushed brick track at Galt Collegiate Institute, Ontario’s oldest school. The race winner will receive a Mercedes sedan if he breaks four minutes, no small feat on this decidedly slow track. Rotich did it last year with a 3:58.9 clocking. He'll be 37 years-old at this year's race. Cambridge's own Nate Brannen, the recently crowned silver medalist at 1500m at the Commonwealth Games, is also slated to compete. That's a pretty solid trio of milers with personal bests of 3:57.00 (Cheboiywo, indoors), 3:47.65 (Rotich) and 3:55.11 (Brannen, indoors). |
