Athletics: The San Francisco Marathon Soars With Sponsor Jetblue Airways

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - (April 21, 2006) - The San Francisco Marathon(tm) announced today that JetBlue Airways has signed on as the airline sponsor for the 29th edition of its road race on Sunday, July 30, 2006. The partnership comes on the heels of a successful 2005 event that drew record numbers of participants for the 26.2-mile marathon, two companion half marathons, a "progressive" marathon, and 5K fun run/walk.

"JetBlue is excited about supporting The 2006 San Francisco Marathon," said Mark Rogers, JetBlue's West Coast Sponsorships and Events Coordinator. "We applaud the many participants in this year's marathon. It's our goal to provide them with a world-class product during their race travels, and alleviate them of stress so they can prepare for their big day."

Registration activity for this year's event is spirited. Under a new, tiered entry system, race participants receive discounts for entering early. Each registration tier is limited to an available number of starting positions.

As an additional bonus, entrants who sign up by April 30, 2006 will be eligible to win JetBlue travel. A lucky winner will receive two roundtrip flights on JetBlue Airways. Race registration details are available at www.runsfm.com.

"We plan additional JetBlue promotions as appreciation to the many entrants who have grown our event to almost 15,000 participants over the past several years," said marathon producer Peter Nantell of West End Management. "Our award-winning service to our runners is the reason for this unprecedented growth. So, we hope our runners will support our sponsors and select JetBlue's excellent air service when they travel."

Last year, the readers of CitySports Magazine recognized The San Francisco Marathon(tm) with three of its Best of the Bay Awards -- giving the event top honors in the categories of best local marathon, best local half marathon, and best event T-shirt.
