Posted: April 27, 2006 Athletics: Canada announces Paralympic World Cup team April 27th 2006, OTTAWA – Athletics Canada announced today the athletes that will take part in the 2nd Paralympic World Cup in Manchester, England. The event which runs from May 1st – 7th is the biggest international annual multi-sport competition outside of the Paralympic Games. Paralympic World Cup team
Jean Laroche, Paralympic Head Coach, knows that this event can set the tone for the season; “The World Cup is the perfect occasion for the worlds best Paralympians to show their stuff. It is a short but intense program that will set the tone for this season heading into the Worlds.” Laroche feels that Jeff Adams and Diane Roy should lead the way as veterans; “Jeff Adams and Diane Roy both medaled in the inaugural edition of this event and they should be counted on to repeat and lead the way for some of our younger athletes.” The Paralympic World Cup brings many of the world’s greatest athletes together and plays a critical role in providing competition between Paralympic Games, bringing many of the world’s greatest athletes together. The World Cup will feature competition in athletics, swimming, track cycling and wheelchair basketball. Canada’s most decorated Paralympian, wheelchair racer Chantal Petitclerc will not make the trip to Manchester to defend her titles at the World Cup. Petitclerc was slated to take part and defend her title in both the 200m and 1500m but unfortunately due to a recent injury is unable to make the trip. Athletics Canada is the national sport governing body for the sport of track and field including cross-country running, road running and road racing.
