The 23rd annual Sallie Mae 10-K will take place this Sunday in Washington, D.C., and the organizers have put together quality fields competing for a total cash purse of $12, 900.

Two speedy Russians, Tatiana Chulakh (32:36 PB) and Olga Romanova (31:58 PB), lead the women's field and will face a a strong challenge from Kenyans Florence Jepkosgei, who won the Pike's Peek 10-K last weekend, and teenager Lineth Chepkurui, who won the Reedy River Run last month. The top U.S. entrant is Mary Kate Bailey of nearby Arlington, Va., who won last weekend's George Washington Parkway Classic 10 miler.

Kenyan Julius Kibet, who has a 1:01:18 half-marathon to his credit, will be running against compatriot Reuben Chebii, who ran 27:48 for 10 km in Toronto in 2004. Two more Kenyans, Jyncoel Onyancha Basweti and Benson Cheruiyot, are also entered.

The open event records are 27:43 by Thomas Nyariki of Kenya set in 1997 and 31:27 by Asmae Leghzaoui of Morocco set in 2005.
