Posted: May 3, 2006 Athletics: Defar To Run At Reebok Grand Prix From David Monti © 2006 Race Results Weekly, all rights reserved RaceResultsWeekly.com Meseret Defar, the reigning Olympic 5000m champion, plans to compete at the second annual Reebok Grand Prix at New York's Ichan Stadium on Saturday, June 3, organizers announced yesterday. She will compete in the women's 5000m, the event won by her Ethiopian compatriot, Tirunesh Dibaba, at last year's event. Defar, 22, recently lowered the world record on the road for 5-K, winning the Carlsbad 5000 on April 9 in 14:46. She is also a two-time world indoor champion at 3000m at at last summer's IAAF World Championships in Athletics, she won a silver medal at 5000m behind Dibaba. At last year's Reebok Grand Prix, Defar competed in the 3000m winning in a personal best 8:33.57, despite the unusually warm and humid conditions.
