Athletics: Jackson named USATF Athlete of the Week

INDIANAPOLIS - Bershawn Jackson has been named USA Track & Field's Athlete of the Week after winning the men's 400 meter hurdles Saturday at the Osaka World Athletics Tour.

The reigning World Outdoor champion, Jackson won the 400mH in a world-leading 47.60 seconds. Jackson's time was a meet and Japanese all-comers record.

Another notable performance in Osaka came from Olympic and World champion Justin Gatlin, who was the first man under 10 seconds in the 100 meters this year, winning the race in 9.95. Elsewhere, World silver medalist Sanya Richards easily won the 400m in a world-leading 49.89 Saturday at the Jamaica International Invitational Meet.

Now in its sixth year, USATF's Athlete of the Week program is designed to recognize outstanding performers at all levels of the sport. USATF names a new honoree each week and features the athlete on the USATF website. Selections are based on top performances and results from the previous week.
