Athletics: Chief High Performance Officer Employment Opportunity with Athletics Canada

Athletics Canada (AC) is the National Sport Organization for Athletics in Canada. Its purpose is to support high performance athletics excellence at the world level and to provide leadership in developmental athletics. Athletics Canada is a not-for-profit, charitable organization operating under a Board of Directors elected by provincial/territorial members.

The Chief High Performance Officer (CHPO) is a full-time position encompassing responsibilities for the technical direction and leadership of all athlete and coach performance programs within the established policies and the Strategic Plan of Athletics Canada. The CHPO will report to the Chief Executive Officer for Athletics Canada.

Responsibilities of this position include:

  • Develop and shape the Athletics Canada Strategic Plan, including the articulation of multi-year and annual High Performance Program Plans to achieve the established Performance Objectives.
  • Lead, monitor the implementation, and evaluate the effectiveness of the National Team Programs and make appropriate adjustments as required.
  • Review AC’s technical performance against short and intermediate term plans, provide analysis & recommendations, and make appropriate adjustments as required.
  • Lead, manage and coordinate all technical staff ensuring that their responsibilities, authorities, and accountabilities are clearly defined, understood, carried out, and evaluated.
  • Determine the final budgets, controls and accounts for all funds with respect to all technical programs and National Team Program Projects.

The ideal candidate must have knowledge of the amateur sporting system of Canada and of the programs of AC’s key sports partners. Ten or more years of progressive experience in amateur sport is required, including demonstrable success as an executive manager with excellent management, administrative, and financial skills. Strong consultative, facilitation and decision-making skills are required. This individual will possess vision, energy, enthusiasm and the desire to be both a team builder and team player. Bilingualism is an asset. Preference will be given to candidates willing to relocate to the Head Office in Ottawa.

Salary for this position will commensurate with experience.
