Posted: May 12, 2006 Athletics: Henry sets new personal best; Gatlin breaks world record (OTTAWA) – Anson Henry from Pickering, ON set a new personal best in a race that will be talked about for some time. Henry finished 5th and set a new personal best of 10.12 seconds in the 100m dash at the Super GP in Doha, Qatar. World and Olympic champion Justin Gatlin finished first, positioning himself as the world’s fastest man by setting a new world record of 9.76, improving on Asafa Powell’s mark of 9.77 set in June 2005 at the Athens Super Grand Prix Tsiklitiria in Greece. Henry’s personal best is impressive in the fact that he set it so early in the season. Henry, a member of Canada’s bronze medal 4X100m relay team at the 2006 Commonwealth Games, will race in the 100m and 4X100m relay at the upcoming Pacific World Cup in Abbotsford, BC on June 8th. Athletics Canada is the national sport governing body for the sport of track and field, cross country running, road running and road racing. |
