Triathlon: Women’s National Team expands to 8 members

Ayesha Rollinson and Kathy Tremblay have been added to the 2006 Women’s National Triathlon team. Triathlon Canada made the announcement earlier today that the team was expanding from 6 to 8 members. The added twosome joins Jill Savege, Carol Montgomery, Gillian Kornell, Carolyn Murray, Samantha McGlone and Lauren Groves.

Rollinson, from Toronto, finished the 2005 season ranked #60 on the ITU Points list and was the 6th highest ranked Canadian. Rollinson’s best result in 2005 came at the Pan American Championships in Bogota, Columbia when she finished second. This year Rollinson has competed in 3 World Cups, in Doha, Qatar, Aqaba, Jordan and Mazatlan, Mexico finishing 24th, 23rd and 24th respectively.

Kathy Tremblay, from Montreal, also had a year to remember in 2005 highlighted by a fifth place finish at the U-23 World Championships in Gamagori, Japan. Tremblay, who is the youngest member of the National team at 23, also had 2 third place finishes last season, one in Kelowna at the National Championships/Pan American Cup and the other at the Pan American New York City Triathlon.

Tremblay finished the 2005 season as the ninth highest ranked Canadian, 66th on the ITU Points List. However, the 766 ITU points she earned in 2005 was the sixth best point total amongst Canadian women. Tremblay’s first race of the 2006 season was a third place finish in Mazatlan – her first ever podium performance at a Word Cup event.

Executive Director, Alan Trivett, says both athletes proved themselves throughout the entire year with very consistent performances. “Ayesha and Kathy both had some outstanding results and are definitely deserving to be on the National Team. Kathy’s performance at the World Championships and Ayesha’s finish at the Pan American championships are 2 of the better results from Canadians in 2005.”

Triathlon Canada is the National Federation for the Sport of Triathlon and Duathlon in Canada.
