Posted: May 18, 2006 Athletics: Big Sur International Marathon's "Just Run" Program Receives Children's Miracle Network Grant CARMEL, Calif. - The 2006 Big Sur International Marathon has announced receipt of a $20,000 grant from Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital thru the Children's Miracle Network for the recently inaugurated "Just Run", a cooperative program designed to promote health and fitness to school children in the 2nd thru 8th grades. "We are delighted with this support," said Mike Dove, Founder and Director of the "Just Run" program. "The Children's Miracle Network has made is possible for us to expand our fitness, health and wellness program to many other schools that may not ordinarily get the chance to participate and reach children that may not otherwise have access to health and wellness programs." During the recent BSIM race weekend in late April, 40 schools and over 2,500 students - many from the "Just Run" program - participated in the KION 5K Family Fun Run. Founded by Marie Osmond and John Schneider, Children's Miracle Network is an international non-profit organization dedicated to raising funds for and awareness of children's hospitals. Begun in 1983, Children's Miracle Network's first fund-raising effort was a television special broadcast by 30 television stations and originating from a small studio in Provo, Utah. That first year Children's Miracle Network and 22 hospitals in the United States raised $4.7 million
