Athletics: Adam Goucher to run 1,500M at adidas Track Classic

Adam Goucher, the reigning USA 4 km cross country and 3,000m indoor champion, will appear on a USATF media teleconference at 11:30 a.m. Eastern Time on Thursday, May 18. For dialing information, see below.

Goucher will compete on USA Track & Field's Visa Championship Series Sunday, May 21 at the adidas Track Classic in Carson, Calif. He is slated to run the 1,500 meters.

The 1999 and 2000 USA 5,000m champion on the track, Goucher is enjoying an incredible comeback season in 2006. Now living and training in Portland, Ore., Goucher this year alone posted the fastest indoor 3,000m time by an American (7:41.59 at the Tyson Invitational Feb. 10); won the USA 4km cross country title on Feb. 18; won the USA indoor 3,000m title one week later, on Feb. 25; then posted the highest-ever finish by an American man in the short-course race at the IAAF World Cross Country Championships, placing sixth on April 1.

He enters the adidas Track Classic looking for more success, this time at the 1,500-meter distance. He faces a field that includes Rashid Ramzi, the 2005 world champion at 800 and 1,500 meters, and American record holder Bernard Lagat.
