Posted: May 20, 2006 Triathlon: Speedo To Provide Prize Bonuses At ‘Haul’ Events $40,000 up for grabs for top American finishers Colorado Springs, Colorado (May 19, 2006) - American triathletes have a little more incentive to reach the podium at this year’s USA Triathlon Haul to the Great Wall Series, thanks to the generous support of Speedo, who is making $40,000 available to the top U.S. finishers. The swimwear and sports apparel giant is providing $5,000 in bonus money for each race on the five-city tour. American men and women who finish in the top-three in their respective races are eligible for the bonuses, with $1,500 going to the top finisher, $750 to second, and $250 to third. In addition to the individual race bonus pool, Speedo is providing a $15,000 end-of-the-season bonus to be split if U.S. athletes finish first or second in the Series. First place will receive $5,000 and second place will take home $2,500 in both the men’s and women’s categories. “This is another way for Speedo to support U.S. athletes as they strive for success on the international level,” said Stu Isaac, senior vice president for marketing and sales at Speedo. “We are pleased to partner with USA Triathlon in this endeavor and are excited to see the development of these athletes as they look to qualify for the 2008 Olympics Games in Beijing.” U.S. triathletes took five of the top six spots at the Series opening event in Honolulu and split $3,500 in bonuses. “USAT is proud to have a relationship with Speedo,” said USAT Executive Director Skip Gilbert. “As we have seen through their involvement with swimming and USA Swimming, Speedo’s commitment to the athlete, to the competition and to driving programs to help grow the sport is unmatched. USAT looks forward to building a beneficial relationship with Speedo and developing programs to help fuel the multi-sport lifestyle.” Still ahead on the Series’ schedule is The Beach Triathlon in Long Beach, Calif. (June 25), the Park City Mossman Triathlon in Bridgeport, Conn. (August 5), the Boston Triathlon in Boston, Mass. (September 3), and the Westchester Triathlon in Rye, N.Y. (September 17). Both Honolulu and Boston were part of the 2005 series USA Triathlon is the national governing body for triathlon, duathlon, aquathlon and winter triathlon in the United States.
