Athletics: Kreiner named USATF Athlete of the Week

INDIANAPOLIS - Kim Kreiner has been named USA Track & Field's Athlete of the Week after setting a new American record Wednesday at the II GP Sul-Americano Caixa/Unifor de Atletismo in Fortaleza, Brazil.

A 2004 Olympian, Kreiner set the new American record with her throw of 61.79 meters/ 202 feet 8 inches. Kreiner bettered her previous record of 60.88m/199-9, which she set on April 22 at the Woody Wilson Classic in Davis, Calif.

Another notable performance was turned in by 2005 World Outdoor silver medalist Wallace Spearmon, who won the adidas men's 200m in a world-leading 20.06 seconds Sunday at the adidas Track Classic in Carson, Calif.

Now in its sixth year, USATF's Athlete of the Week program is designed to recognize outstanding performers at all levels of the sport. USATF names a new honoree each week and features the athlete on the USATF website. Selections are based on top performances and results from the previous week.
