Posted: June 6, 2006 Athletics:Tara Quinn-Smith 2006 10,000m Canadian champion June 6th 2006, OTTAWA - Tara Quinn-Smith of Waterdown, ON was crowned female 10,000m Canadian champion on Sunday June 4th at the Lafarge Abbotsford International Track Classic, in Abbostford, BC. The Abbotsford International Track Classic served as Athletics Canada's Canadian 10,000m Championship. Scott Simpson is the men's 10,000m Canadian champion finishing the race in a time of 29:51.04. Mark Bomba from Vernon, BC finished in 2nd place in 29:51.66 and Jerry Ziak was 3rd in 29:51.79. Tara Quinn-Smith won the women's title in a time of 34:08.66. The Lafarge Abbotsford International Track Classic / Canadian 10,000m Championship is the first race of the PacificCanada series. Up next in the series is the Review Kajaks International Track Classic on June 6th in Richmond, BC, followed by the Vancouver Sun Harry Jerome International / Pacific World Cup on June 8th in Burnaby, BC and the series wraps-up in Victoria, BC on June 11th with the Victoria International Track Classic. Athletics Canada is the national sport governing body for the sport of track and field including cross-country running, road running and road racing. |
