Posted: June 16, 2006 Triathlon: More Exciting News From The 2006 “Best Of The US Amateur Triathlete Competition" (St. Paul, MN – 6/16/06) On the weekend of June 10-11, the following athletes earned invitations to represent their states at the “Best of the US Championship” in Excelsior, MN on September 16: ALABAMA: Jason Frey & Lori Goldweber (qualified at the McMinnville City Triathlon) DELAWARE: David Luscan & Michelle Fields (qualified at Escape From Fort Delaware) MISSOURI: Sam Yount & Jillian Petersen (qualified at Quartermax) “All six of these athletes are extremely talented,” says Jerry MacNeil, BOUS PR Director, adding “We’re very pleased that they will be representing their respective states.” Goldweber also qualified in 2005. Yount is a former professional and talented newcomer Peterson comes from an elite swimming background (University of Missouri). Below are some of the 2006 competitive highlights of BOUS invitees: * Lotte Branigan (Florida) was the 2nd female amateur finisher (10th woman overall) at the ultra-competitive Ford Ironman Florida 70.3 on May 21. * Jennifer Garrison (Illinois) followed her dominating win at the Tri-Shark / Best of the US Illinois Qualifier with a 2nd place finish behind established professional Lauren Jensen at the highly competitive Elkhart Lake Triathlon in Wisconsin on June 11. * Heidi Grimm (Washington) was the women’s champion at the prestigious Gulf Coast Triathlon on May 13. She beat runner-up Karen Holloway, a pro and two-time Gulf Coast champion by a hefty 3:38. Grimm is relocating to New York and plans to race in the Shoreline Triathlon / Best of the US NY Qualifier on July 30. * David Irion (Illinois) , 48, has won two major events in his home state already this season: the Galena Triathlon and Tri-Shark Classic / Best of the US Illinois Qualifier. * Lisbeth Kenyon (Kentucky), 41, placed 3rd at the prestigious St. Anthony’s Triathlon in April. She finished behind winner Danielle Sullivan, 2005 USAT Athlete of the Year Honorable Mention, and four-time St. Anthony’s winner Linda Robb, a former USAT Athlete of the Year and reigning USAT Master of the Year. * Christopher Martin (New Jersey), the defending BOUS National Champion, set a course record at the Kinetic Half on April 22.He followed that effort with a 2nd place amateur finish at the venerable Columbia Triathlon. * David Silver (Georgia) followed an impressive 5th place amateur finish at Gulf Coast with an overall victory at Escape From Alcatraz on June 4. David represented Georgia at the 2005 BOUS Championships and has his sights set on winning the West Point Lake / Best of the US Georgia Qualifier on July 23. * Chuck Sloan (Oklahoma) won the USAT Age Group Duathlon Championships in Ohio on May 7. * Christina Wolfe (Oklahoma) was the female amateur champion at the popular and prestigious Memphis In May Triathlon on May 21.
