Athletics: 13th Annual William A. Irvin 5K Results

Duluth, MN: One thousand one hundred thirty eight people gathered near the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center at 6 p.m. today to participate in the 13th annual William A. Irvin 5K – the first race of Grandma's Marathon weekend. There were 1,138 finishers.

Brent Kann, 19, of Rice Lake, Wis. and Nathan Beerling, 24, of Duluth, Minn. were neck and neck down the homestretch of the 3.1-mile race, but Kann had the extra edge finishing one second ahead of Beerling in 15:58. Jason Kask, 20, of Duluth was third with a time of 16:25. In the women’s division, Michelle Oman, 32, of Mankato, Minn. finished first for the second year in a row with a winning time of 17:45—13 seconds faster than her 2005 time. Lindsey Weier, 21, of Marquette, Mich. Was second in 18:53 and Laura Hughes, 14, of Mankato, Minn. was third in 18:58.

The race started and finished near the permanently docked William A. Irvin ore boat in Canal Park. All finishers received a T-shirt and a commemorative pin. Top finishers in each age category will be sent a special award within the next two weeks.
