Posted: June 19, 2006 Athletics: Inaugural Freedom Mile Set for July 4th in Mammoth Lakes MAMMOTH LAKES, Calif. - (June 15, 2006) - For this year's Fourth of July Celebration, the Town of Mammoth Lakes and High Sierra Striders have partnered to organize the first Freedom Mile. The one mile road race will take place on Tuesday, July 4th at 10:15am, 45 minutes prior to the start of the annual 4th of July parade, following the parade route. "We are all very excited with the inaugural Freedom Mile. Running down Old Mammoth road will be an awesome experience with the large crowds that will be forming for the viewing of the Mammoth Lakes July 4th parade. This event will be a big hit with competitive runners, recreational joggers and everyone in between!" said Andrew Kastor, president of the High Sierra Striders. There is 200 person cap on the race so register today. Various prizes will be awarded to first, second and third places for each age group and gender. To register for the race, visit either VisitMammoth.com or HighSierraStriders.org, print and complete an entry form and send it to the Mammoth Lakes Visitors Bureau with the entry fee of $12 or $20 (includes Freedom Mile t-shirt). The Freedom Mile was created to bring awareness of health and fitness to the Eastern Sierra.
