Triathlon: Brazil Telecom Ironman 70.3 Reaching Capacity for 2006

World Triathlon Corporation, owners and organizers of the Ironman and Ironman 70.3 Series, is pleased to announce that registration is reaching capacity for the upcoming Brazil Telecom Ironman 70.3. While the official deadline to register is August 1, the event is limited to 1,000 athletes and is quickly approaching maximum capacity. The event, scheduled for August 20, 2006, will give athletes the opportunity to qualify in Brazil's scenic capital city, Brasilia, for the inaugural Ford Ironman World Championship 70.3, taking place this November in Clearwater, Fla.

Latin Sports, organizers of the popular Brazil Telecom Ironman since 2001, will also serve as the event organizer for the upcoming Brazil Telecom Ironman 70.3. "We are thrilled to be a part of the Ironman 70.3 Series. The location of the race, Brasilia, will provide athletes with a unique experience and will allow them to get to know one of the most interesting cities in the world," said Carlos Galvao, Brazil Telecom Ironman 70.3 race director and CEO of Latin Sports.

The event will consist of a 1.2-Mile swim, 56-Mile bike and a 13.1-Mile run. The race will begin with a swim in beautiful Lake Paranoa and end with a flat, fast bike and run course. Currently the only official qualifier in South America for the Ford Ironman World Championship 70.3, the Brazil Telecom Ironman 70.3 will offer a $20,000 USD prize purse and 100 slots to the World Championship event.

"As the core qualifying event in South America, the Brazil Telecom Ironman 70.3 will serve an active and growing triathlon market. We are excited for the event to be held in Brazil's capital and feel it will be another excellent event produced by Ironman and Latin Sports," said Steve Meckfessel, WTC's Ironman 70.3 events director.
