Posted: June 20, 2006 Athletics: Acosta named USATF Athlete of the Week INDIANAPOLIS- El Camino (Calif.) High School senior A.J. Acosta has been named USA Track & Field's Athlete of the Week after winning the boy's two mile championship at the Nike Outdoor Nationals at North Carolina A&T University, in Greensboro, N.C. The 2005 Foot Locker National Cross Country champion, Acosta won the two mile with a time of 8 minutes 42.36 seconds, which places him at the top of the 2006 U.S. Junior leaders chart. Acosta was named the Track and Field News December 2005 High School Athlete of the Month after his victory at the Foot Locker National Cross Country Championships. Now in its sixth year, USATF's Athlete of the Week program is designed to recognize outstanding performers at all levels of the sport. USATF names a new honoree each week and features the athlete on the USATF website.
