Martin Lel got his second victory, while Lornah Kiplagat got her fifth, at today's 37th Peachtree Road Race in Atlanta, Ga. This point-to-point 10-K was held in typically hot and humid conditions.

Lel, the 27 year-old marathoner from Kenya, blew away the field, clocking 27:20, unofficially. That would be the second-fastest winning time in the history of the race behind only Joseph Kimani's 27:04 course record set in 1996.

Kiplagat, the reigning European cross country champion from the Netherlands, had to overcome a serious challenge from Kenyan Jemima Jelegat to become only the second woman to win Peachtree five times, tying American Gayle Barron who won five of the first six editions of the race. Kiplagat was clocked in 31:13 (unofficial), according to her husband, Pieter Langerhorst, who called the RRW office earlier today. Jelegat finished second while three-time Olympic medalist Gete Wami finished third.

One of the largest races in the world, the Peachtree Road Race boasts 55,000 official entrants.
