Athletics: Americans win impressively in Paris

Led by Jeremy Wariner's personal best in the men's 400 meters, Americans won five events Saturday at the Meeting Gaz de France in Paris, part of the IAAF's Golden League series.

The Olympic and world champion, Wariner turned in a performance that was rated the best of the meet by the IAAF Web site. Crushing the field, Wariner ran to a personal-best and world-leading win of 43.91 seconds in the 400. Fresh off his first U.S. title in the event, Andrew Rock was a distant second in 45.02, with Christopher Tyler of Canada third in 45.16 and U.S. 200m champion Wallace Spearmon fourth in 45.22.

American women swept the 400m hurdles, led by 2006 Visa Champion Lashinda Demus, who won in 53.76 seconds. Tiffany Ross-Williams was second in 54.26, with 2004 Olympic Trials champion Sheena Johnson third in 54.39.

Two-time Olympic silver medalist Terrence Trammell defeated an impressive field in the men's 110-meter hurdles, his time of 13.06 besting 2006 U.S. champion Dominique Arnold in second (13.08). Dayron Robles of Cuba was third in 13.11, with co-world record holder and Olympic gold medalist Liu Xiang of China fourth in 13.19 and world champion Ladji Doucoure of France fifth in 13.21.

Marion Jones raced to her first sub-11 clocking in the women's 100 meters since 2002, winning in 10.92, the second-fastest time in world this year. World leader Sherone Simpson of Jamaica was second in 10.98, with 2003 world champ Torri Edwards third in 11.06.

2005 Visa Champion Sanya Richards won the women's 400 in 49.73, the second-fastest time in the world this year behind her own 49.27.
