Posted: July 11, 2006 Athletics: Reed sets new 800m Canadian record in Lausanne OTTAWA – Gary Reed from Victoria set a new Canadian record in the 800m finishing 2nd in a time of 1:44.16 in Lausanne, Switzerland today at the Athletissima 2006. Reed broke the existing Canadian record of 1:44.33 which he set in August 2005 at the World Championships in Helsinki, Finland. Reed will take part in the prestigious Golden Gala in Rome, Italy on Friday July 14th. The Golden Gala is part of the IAAF Golden League. Reed will then travel back to Canada and take part in the 2006 Canadian Track and Field Championships in Ottawa, August 4th to 6th. In other results from the Super Grand Prix in Lausanne today Diane Cummins from Vancouver was 3rd in the women’s 800m finishing in a time of 2:01.87. Priscilla Lopes of Whitby, ON was 7th in the women’s 100m hurdles crossing the line in 12.74 seconds. Lopes will also head to Rome and take part in the Golden Gala. Other Canadians set to compete today in Lausanne are Dana Ellis from Kitchener, ON and Nicole Forrester from Cookstown, ON who will compete in the pole vault and high jump respectively. Athletics Canada is the national sport governing body for the sport of track and field including cross-country running, road running and road racing. |
