Posted: July 12, 2006 Athletics:World Champion Half Marathon to Amsterdam Amsterdam, 12 July 2006 - For the next ING Amsterdam Marathon on October 15, 2006, the organizers have compiled a balanced field of athletes, in which talent and experience will come together. We are pleased to announce that we can confirm the presence of Vanderlei Lima and World Champion Fabiano Joseph. For a long time Fabiano Joseph (Tanzania, 1985) has been a very promising athlete. After his silver medal in the 10K of the World Championship of Juniors in 2004, Fabiano Joseph did well on the road. With his easy running style he is sure to make a mark on the marathon. Vanderlei Lima (Brasil, 1969) has many winnings to his name, especially the Tokyo Marathon 1996, Sao Paulo Marathon 2002, Pan American Games 2003 and Hamburg Marathon 2004. At the Olympic Games in Athens he finally won a bronze medal after he had been jostled by an Irish priest who jumped onto the route, while Vanderlei was in first position! For his sporting behaviour in handling this incident he was awarded by the IOC with the Pierre Coubertin Medal for sportsmanship. |
