Athletics: Academic Awards Pile Up for Razorback Track

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Former Arkansas jumper Jaanus Uudmae was named the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Indoor Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year for the 2006 season, it was announced today. Additionally, Arkansas is the 2006 Division I USTFCCCA Men's All-Academic Team of the Year for both the indoor and outdoor seasons.

The USTFCCCA honors individuals and teams for their academic and athletic accomplishments during the indoor and outdoor track seasons. Twenty-three Division I men's teams had cumulative grade-point averages of 3.0 or higher.

The Razorbacks, who won the 2006 NCAA Division I men's indoor title and finished fifth in the NCAA outdoor championships, had a team GPA of 3.03. The selection of the outstanding team was based on a combination of athletic and academic achievement.

To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track & Field Team, an athlete must have a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher and must have met the NCAA Division I regional or national qualifying standard in his event.

Uudmae, the 2006 NCAA Indoor Champion in the triple jump, ended his Hog career as a five-time All-American, a three-time SEC champion and a five-time All-SEC performer. Additionally, he was also a team captain during his senior season.

In the classroom, the Estonia native was named to the Academic All-American first-team, University division, for the second time in his career, with his GPA of 4.0 in computer science engineering.

Also named to the list is 2006 1500M All-American Adam Perkins. The Liberty, Mo. earned his way onto the list with a 3.4 GPA in finance. Perkins, returning for his senior season this fall, is a four-time All-American and five-time All-SEC performer. Additionally, he was also named to the Academic All-American first-team, University division.
