Athletics: More US results from NACAC

INDIANAPOLIS - USA Track & Field on Wednesday acquired results for the 2006 NACAC U23 Track & Field Championships in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, that were not previously made available. The following is a summary of those events.

The NACAC Athletic Association's U23 Championships are held every two years in one of the 32 member nations of the North America, Central America and Caribbean Athletic Association, one of six regional athletics associations affiliated with the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF).

2006 Big West Conference Field Athlete of the Year Chris Richardson (Pensacola, Fla.), who will be a senior at Long Beach State, won the men's decathlon with 7,243 points. Richardson won five of the ten events contested en route to his victory. Liberty University junior Brandon Hoskins (Garden City, Texas) took second with 7,086 points.

Rhodes Scholar and NCAA champion Garrett Johnson (Tampa, Fla.) claimed gold in the men's shot put with his winning heave of 20.64 meters/67 feet 8.75 inches. University of Idaho senior Russ Winger (Colorado Springs, Colo.) grabbed the silver with his put of 19.35m/63-6.

University of Akron senior Natalie Sako (Parma, Ohio) took home the bronze medal in the women's high jump with her third place clearance of 1.78 meters/5 feet 10 inches. Cornell senior Sarah Wilfred (Brockton, Mass.) was fourth at the same height.

Other medalists at the 2006 NACAC Championships include 2006 USA Outdoor runner-up Keith Moffatt (Newport News, Va.), who won the men's high jump title with his clearance of 2.27 meters/7 feet 4.25 inches. USC junior Duane Solomon (Lompoc, Calif.), who placed fifth at the 2006 NCAA Championships, brought home the gold in the men's 800 meters in 1 minute 48.96 seconds, and Texas junior Leonel Manzano (Marble Falls, Texas), who finished fourth at NCAAs and third at the USA Outdoor Championships, grabbed silver in the men's 1,500m in 3:47.64.
