Athletics: ’07 and ’08 Canadian Championships to take place in Windsor

OTTAWA – The 2007 and 2008 Canadian Track and Field Championships have been moved from Edmonton, Alberta and will now take place in Windsor, Ontario. The move was necessary due to a schedule conflict in Edmonton. Canadian Championships not only serve to crown the nations finest athletes, they also serve qualifiers for major international competitions such as the Olympic Games and World Championships. The 2007 Canadian Championships will serve as a qualifier to the 2007 IAAF World Championships in Athletics while the 2008 nationals will qualify athletes to the 2008 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Beijing, China.

Windsor, host of the the 2005 Pan Am Junior Championships, has a rich history in hosting prestigious athletics events. Windsor had been slated to host the 2007 and 2008 Canadian Junior Track and Field Championships, with them now hosting the senior championships, the 2007 and 2008 juniors have been moved to Abbostford, British Columbia.

The 2007 Canadian Track and Field Championships will mark the first time that a fully integrated event is staged with both able-bodied and athletes with a disability competing in the same Canadian Championship.

The 2006 Canadian championships will be held in the nation’s capital August 4th to 6th. For event information please visit www.athletics.ca or www.ottawalions.com.
