Athletics: Daniel Lincoln Breaks 21-Year Old American Record

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Former Hog harrier Daniel Lincoln set a new American record in the 3000M steeplechase at the Golden Gala, an event in the IAAF Golden League, in Rome, Italy, on Friday afternoon. Lincoln, a 2004 Olympian, was a four-time NCAA champion and a 14-time All-American during his time in a Razorback uniform.

Lincoln, also setting a new personal-best, finished fifth in the race of 16 competitors and crossed the line with a time of 8:08.82. The Fayetteville native eclipsed the 26-year old American record of 8:09.17, set on Aug. 28, 1985, by Henry Marsh of Athletics West.

“It’s been a long time coming for Daniel,” said Razorback track and field head coach John McDonnell. “If it weren’t for an injury, he would have broken the record before now. Being in medical school and training, he’s been working very hard. It is well deserved.”
