Posted: July 14, 2006 Athletics: IAAF Golden League - Jackpot Contenders Rome, Italy - The third stage of the six meeting IAAF Golden League takes place this evening, Friday 14 July, at the Borotalco Golden Gala in Rome’s Olympic stadium. With the battle to achieve either five or six wins in the series now stronger than ever, we review the athletes who are still in contention for the new format Golden League Jackpot. IAAF Golden League Jackpot For 2006 -- Total Jackpot remains $1 Million -- Athletes who win 5 meetings – get share of $500,000 -- Athletes who can win another meeting (6 total) – get share of AN ADDITIONAL $500,000 -- All Jackpot winners must also compete at the IAAF World Athletics Final in Stuttgart on 9 – 10 September 2006. Athletes still in contention for six Golden League wins: MEN: Asafa Powell (JAM, 100m), Jeremy Wariner (USA, 400m) WOMEN: Sanya Richards (USA, 400m), Tirunesh Dibaba (ETH, 5000m) Athletes in contention for five Golden League wins: MEN: Alex Kipchirchir (KEN, 1500m), Ivan Heshko (UKR, 1500m), Isaac Songok (KEN, 5000m), Kenenisa Bekele (ETH, 5000m), Irving Saladino (PAN, LJ), Ignisious Gaisah (GHA, LJ), Andreas Thorkildsen (NOR, JT), Tero Pitkämäki (FIN, JT).
