Triathlon: 2 Big Events in Women’s Triathlon this Weekend

The first Triathlon Series event for Women in Canada starts up this weekend in Orangeville, Ontario. This is the fifth year of the Series – the only triathlon Series for Woman in Canada. There are 3 competitions at this event on Sunday designed for all age groups and levels of ability. Registration is open right up until race day and everybody is welcome – there is no cutoff for the start line. For more information please click on the link below.

The Super Sprint Triathlon consists of 375m Swim, 10km Bike & 2.5km Run. The Super Sprint Duathlon is similar with a 2.5km Run - 10km Bike - 2.5km Run. And the Sprint Triathlon is a 750m Swim - 20km Bike - 5km Run.

Executive Committee Director, Sue Trerise, is very pleased with how things have come together in the final preparations for this big race. “We are expecting our second biggest turnout ever. In previous years we’ve had many competitors show up on race day and if this trend stays the same I think we’ll be in the neighbourhood of 300 athletes – 2 years ago we had approximately 360 racers. All of our proceeds go to the local charity – Safe Communities for the Hill Country – and for this we are very proud.”

The second of 3 events takes place in Grimsby, Ontario on Sunday, August 13, and the final event is in Milton, Ontario on September 10th.

Also coming this weekend is the Kincardine Women’s Triathlon. The Sixth Annual Kincardine Women’s Triathlon has once again reached capacity and it will take place at Station Beach on July 15 at 9:30am. The swim course is 375m and will take place in beautiful Lake Huron. The bike course is 12km and will be on traffic controlled town streets. The 3km run will be along the shoreline on Kincardine’s scenic boardwalk. Kincardine is located on Lake Huron at the intersection of Highway 21 and Highway 9.

Race Director, Patti Richards, says things couldn’t be any better this close to race day. “Everything is absolutely fantastic. We filled our quota on June 26 – by far the earliest we’ve ever filled up for the race. This year we increased the field by 30 to 250 participants. We will never go past this number for safety reasons.”

Richards went on to say the race site is ready to go and she says the forecasters are predicting perfect weather for this coming Saturday. “The water has been like glass for the last few days and on race-day we are expecting similar conditions. 27 degrees in the morning with minimal winds is ideal for the athletes.”

Triathlon Canada is the National Federation for the Sport of Triathlon and Duathlon in Canada.
