Athletics: Downin Becomes A Father

Matt and Angela Downin became parents yesterday, celebrating the birth of their first child. Jackson Robert Downin was born on July 15 and weighed 8 lbs, 7 oz. (3.84 kg).

"All are well and healthy," said Matt Downin in a short message sent to the Race Results Weekly office.

The Downins were married last February in Atlanta, Ga. Matt ran for the University of Wisconsin where he was the the Big Ten cross country champion in 1998 and 1999. He finished 11th at the ING New York City Marathon last November in a personal best 2:14:28. Angela, who usually goes by "Angie," competed for the University of Michigan where she ran both the 800m and 1500m.
