Posted: July 24, 2006 Athletics: Rock 'n' Roll Half Marathon celebrates sixth anniversary with 3 Doors Down at post-race concert VIRGINIA BEACH, Va., (July 24, 2006) - Platinum recording artists 3 Doors Down are set to rock the oceanfront in Virginia Beach for the Rock 'n' Roll Half Marathon post-race concert Sunday, September 3, 2006. In conjunction with the Verizon Wireless American Music Festival (AMF), thousands of runners, walkers and rock 'n' roll fans will celebrate the final night of a weekend filled with music and sport hosted by the City of Virginia Beach. Prior to the evening's concert, 20,000 runners and walkers will complete the 13.1-mile half marathon course that winds thru the communities of Virginia Beach. Along the route, live bands, energetic cheerleaders and spirited neighborhood residents line each mile of the course to cheer participants to the finish line, creating a city-wide block party atmosphere. Once the sun sets, 3 Doors Down takes the oceanfront stage to kick off the final party of Labor Day Weekend. A product of the small town of Escatawpa, Mississippi, 3 Doors Down continues to be one of the top concert draws in North America, performing over 300 sold-out live shows a year. The band grew in popularity powered by the single Kryptonite," which helped attract a record deal with Republic Records, a subsidiary of Universal, to produce its first album, The Better Life, in early 2000. The band's second album, Away From the Sun, went gold after its release in November 2002. Continuing on an upward progression, 3 Doors Down continues to enjoy the platinum success of its latest album, Seventeen Days, that was released in 2005 and debuted at number one on the Billboard 200. 3 Doors Down has had six number one singles - Kryptonite, Duck & Run, Loser, Be Like That, When I'm Gone" and Here Without You. According to Billboard Magazine, they were the first debut act to ever have had a number one single at four different radio formats simultaneously with Kryptonite. The group won the 2003 Billboard Music Awards for Best Pop/Rock Group and Best Hot 100 Single. The Rock 'n' Roll Half Marathon celebrates its sixth anniversary in Virginia Beach, Sun., Sept. 3, 2006 with 20,000 runners and walkers.
