Kara Goucher became the second fastest American ever at 10,000m today when she finished a surprising third at the GE Money Grand Prix in Helsinki in 31:17.12.

Goucher, 28, who is married to U.S. 4 km cross country champion Adam Goucher, surpassed Amy Rudolph on the USA all-time list. Rudolph had run 31:18.96 in Palo Alto in 2005. Deena Kastor remains the U.S. record holder (30:50.32) and has run the three fastest times ever by Americans.

Japan's Kayoko Fukushi won the race in 31:00.64, the second fastest performance of her career, with Australia's Benita Johnson in second in 31:14.80. American Jen Rhines set a personal best in fourth place (31:24.16), while her compatriot Katie McGregor rounded out the top five in 31:32.17.
