Athletics: Streamlined Online Transfer Program For Army Ten-Miler Created By Marathonguide.Com

WASHINGTON, DC – The Army Ten-Miler and MarathonGuide.com have rolled out a first-of-its kind online transfer program for its runners. Available since registration closed on June 21, the program easily allows runners to transfer entries for the Army’s premier running event. Despite its status as America’s largest 10-mile race, the 24,000 entries for the Army Ten-Miler go fast– shutting out many potential registrants. A transfer program allows some possibility for these people to enter and gives flexibility to registrants who have a sudden change in schedule.

“Last year the ATM rolled out a paper form based transfer process as a convenience for our runners – it was successful but somewhat labor intensive.” Noted Jim Vandak, Race Director, “MarathonGuide.com’s new online system, offers a streamlined, secure, and easy way to transfer entries.” As of press time, 145 people have transferred into the 2006 race.

The Army Ten-Miler is the first major US running race to use an online transfer program. MarthonGuide.com’s system has many innovative features. Registrants fill out the forms themselves online, where the information is put directly into a database, allowing for less clerical errors to be made. All parties receive an automatic confirmation once the process is complete and all Army Ten-Miler registration databases are updated with the new runner’s information. While participants are still in charge of finding people to transfer with as well as figuring out terms of payment, the online process is less time consuming, flexible and can be done from any computer.

Anyone looking to get into the race or to find someone to take over their registration should check the Army Ten-Miler Bulletin Board at www.armytenmiler.com. The transfer entry deadline is August 10, 2006.
