Race course adaptations for the Monaco Ironman 70.3 presented by CAL Investments Limited
The Ironman 70.3 in Monaco not only changed the name, but also the race courses. While the SWIM remains the same, both the BIKE course and the RUN course are changed in the second edition on September 3rd. The modifications are due to construction work as far as the bike is concerned, whereas the RUN track has been changed to be even more accessible and far more attractive for athletes as well as spectators.
The second edition of the prestigious Monaco Ironman 70.3 presented by CAL Investments Limited will be held in the Principality on September 3rd. 100 of the athletes will have the chance to qualify for the Ironman 70.3 World Championship in Florida, and 30 will win a qualifying spot for the Ford Ironman World Championship 2007 in Hawaii. After the PastaParty on Friday evening in the Chapiteau de Fontvieille, and the Check In of the bikes into the Transition Area on Saturday, the race will start with the 1.9km SWIM at 7h00 on the Larvotto beach, like in the previous edition a 2-loop course.
The 90km BIKE course will lead the triathletes from the Principality to nearby Roquebrune which is already in France – like the rest of the bike course. Construction work on a main road has led to a modification of the bike course, which will unfold as follows: Fro Beausoleil, La Turbie, St. Martin de Peille, Peille, La Grave, Sainte Thècle, Chateauvieux, La Pointe de Contes, Blausasc, Sclos, La Vernéa, La Pointe de Contes, Drap, La Trinité, Notre Dame de Laghet, La Turbie and back to the Principality. The level of difficulty remains the same while the beauty of the course will be even more breathtaking than in the first edition.
The 21.1km RUN race track will still follow the world famous Formula 1 track. Some minor modifications have been made, however, in order to offer athletes a better race closer to the spectators who will have the chance to follow the race course more comfortably. Out of transition, the athletes will run on the Avenue Princesse Grace, through the tunnel, to the port to the Rascasse, and up along Avenue d’Ostende to run next to the Finishline where spectators can take a seat and watch the athletes pass by during every of the 4 and a half loops. The course continues through the gardens of the Casino and down the hairpin bend of Spélugues – the slowest bend in Formula 1 is the fastest in bend in Triathlon! From there the athletes will run to the turning point at the Transition area, to start the next loop.
The Finishline remains on the Avenue de Monte Carlo, and VIPs will enjoy the beautiful view from the terrace of the Hotel de Paris.
