HERSHEY, Pa. - Carl Lewis will lend his international experience, gold-medal enthusiasm and record-breaking support this weekend to young athletes competing at the Hershey North American Finals, held August 5 at the Milton Hershey School. The annual culmination of the hugely successful, 29-year-old Hershey's Track & Field Games, Saturday's North American Finals bring together top athletes from all 50 states as well as Canada to compete in age-graded competition.
A longtime supporter of youth athletics, Lewis will be in Hershey to interact with youth athletes and to support the Hershey program, which promotes physical fitness and fair competition.
"There are tremendous synergies between this program and my own youth initiatives, including my Family Fitness Festival," said Lewis. "Both programs are meant to introduce children and families to a healthy lifestyle. I'm so pleased to be involved with the Hershey's program and I am looking forward to a wonderful experience for everyone involved."
In addition to winning four gold medals at the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, he was a five-time Olympian, three-time world athlete of the year and was named Olympic Athlete of the Century.
During his historic career, Lewis set 13 world records - including six while anchoring 4x100meter relay teams - and 16 American records and is a member of the US Olympic and National Track & Field Hall of Fame.
