Athletics: Moab Half Marathon Organizers Donate Proceeds

MOAB, Utah - (August 4, 2006)- Over $11,000 has been donated to various charities by the organizers of the Canyonlands Half Marathon, The Other Half and the Winter Sun 10K in Moab.

Recipients include the Moab Trails Alliance to help fund a new bike/pedestrian path from Lyons Park into Moab; Star Hall Legacy Fund to help renovate Moab's local auditorium Star Hall; two track/cross country scholarships to Grand County High School graduates and the Grand County Middle School to help start a cross country running program.

Jim Lindheim of the Star Hall Centennial Committee said that the donation from the races was one of the largest donations received from a local organization.

The 2005 races also funded a donation to the Children's Hospital of New Orleans to help organize the Run Forrest Run 5K. According to Roger Gorman from the Hospital, "Frankly, without the support, we would have likely canceled the event."

"Giving back is part of the DNA of our races," said race director Ranna Bieschke. "It's an important element of our mission, and we are proud to be supporters of such worthy causes."
